Barbara is currently working on completing her masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at North Carolina Central University. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree. Prior to starting her masters, Barbara wore a variety of different hats over the past thirty years, including full time overseas Christian missionary, commercial real estate broker and stay at home mom.
Her journey towards counseling began a number of years ago when she first started taking counseling classes at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC. These classes inspired her to spend a number of years developing and leading an inner healing prayer ministry in her church, which provided free mental health and spiritual support to a wide variety of people.
Areas of particular emphasis in her practice include mild to moderate depression, anxiety, parenting, and family challenges. This summer she will complete the training for “Brainspotting” which is a type of therapy similar to EMDR, which is used to release past traumas and negative beliefs.
In her free time, you might find Barbara doing roundhouse kicks at Tai Kwon Do alongside her daughter, or perhaps you might find talking on the phone to her son in college, doting on her two beloved dogs, playing tennis (poorly), or taking a walk with a friend.
Barbara strongly believes that healing and hope are for everyone. She is passionate about walking alongside others on their healing journey.
