Daniel is a student completing his current phase of training as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor at Adams State University. Prior to his training as a counselor, Daniel completed a masters in philosophy from Miami University of Ohio, which complements his clinical insight and understanding of the human experience. He holds a firm belief that therapy must begin with the counselor’s willingness to listen carefully to client speech, emotion, and difference. He believes that each person’s individuality is expressed even in the unique challenges they face.
Some of his areas of interest include anxiety, depression, grief, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He believes in tailoring therapeutic models to client needs. These may range from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to psychodynamic psychotherapy which emphasizes the importance of self-understanding in the context of one’s relation to others. He looks forward to working with adults, adolescents, and children ages 7 and up.
Daniel believes that counseling is at its best when it empowers the client to find the freedom to realize their desire in the world and in their community. He believes the therapeutic relationship can be a transformative starting point for the client’s self-fulfillment.
In his spare time, you’ll find Daniel biking the Raleigh greenway system, reading a great book, or taking a hiking trip with his dog, Lucy.
