Marlee Thomsen began working at Cornerstone Counseling and Wellness in December 2019. Through her experience, Marlee has developed a passion for working with children, adolescents, young adults and parents. She is most equipped for helping these populations deal with adjustment concerns, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and parenting/discipline challenges. Marlee also works with young adults and adults with disordered eating. She enjoys helping clients improve how they relate to their body, food, and exercise.

No matter what age, Marlee seeks to provide a warm and genuine space where clients can name and process their emotions as well learn to cope in adaptive ways. Marlee incorporates elements of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), filial play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She finds joy in helping her clients feel heard and find hope as they become aware of their emotions, strengths and values.

Since becoming a therapist, Marlee has also become a mom to two boys, which has really ignited her passion for working with parents on how they can safely connect with their children every day. Marlee believes that parents have the potential to be the biggest agents of change in their children’s lives because of the amount of time spent together and the relationship that already exists. In 2020, Marlee became a Connected Families Certified Parent Coach allowing her to offer parent coaching that walks through a Biblical parenting framework that is infused with neuroscience and attachment. She is also available upon request for presenting on this topic in various settings. Please feel free to reach out to her to ask about cost and coordination.

Marlee has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) since August 2019. She received her Master of Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill in May 2017.

Marlee met her husband, Caleb, while working in the children's ministry at their local church and they have been married since 2017. In her free time, Marlee enjoys being active outdoors with her boys, reading, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and being part of her church community.
