Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule a session?

The first step is to contact us to schedule a complimentary phone consultation. You may do this through the "Request an Appointment" button found at the top of the page or by clicking the contact button on a specific therapist's profile page. The counselor you requested will contact you within 24-48 business hour for a phone consultation and scheduling. We look forward to speaking with you about your counseling needs!

How do I complete intake paperwork?

Once your initial session has been scheduled, you will receive an email inviting you to create a login and profile on our secure client portal (TheraNest). PLEASE NOTE: Your health insurance provider may outsource your mental/behavioral health plan to a third party, in which case the back of your insurance card will contain that information.

What if you are not in network with my insurance?

If we are "out-of-network" with your insurance provider, you will be responsible for paying the private pay rates (above) at the time of your session. We will gladly provide you with a "superbill" so that you can seek reimbursement from your insurance company. Your insurance company may or may not defray the cost of counseling. You may call the member services number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about their out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services.

What methods of payment do you accept?

You can pay for session fees via Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flex Spending Accounts (FSA). Cornerstone Counseling and Wellness clients are required to keep a payment method on file in our secure client portal. Please note, we do not accept American Express as a form of payment. Full payment for sessions (private pay, deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance) is expected at the time of service delivery.

Do you offer reduced rates for services?

You have taken an important step to seek counseling! We don't want finances to be a factor in your ability to meet your counseling goals. We will discuss your options with you. You will be required to provide proof of income (Federal Tax Forms W-2 or 1099, or your 2 most recent pay stubs). If approved, you and your therapist will complete and sign a Reduced Rate Agreement form.

What can I expect at the first session?

During the first session, your therapist will first need to see your photo ID and your insurance card (if filing insurance), then will review intake paperwork with you to insure that you clearly understand the information contained within. Your therapist will work with you to complete a comprehensive clinical assessment. You and your therapist will then identify and document treatment goals that are tailored specifically for your desired counseling outcome.

What do I need to bring with me to counseling?

For the first session, please bring a photo ID and your insurance card. Also, for the first session and for ongoing sessions, clients find it helpful to bring a notebook or journal and something to write with.
