April began her counseling career in July 2017 working with children, teenagers, adults, and families in a ministry setting. April has also worked in the local hospital as a chaplain. Through these opportunities she has gained valuable experience in provision of crisis intervention and stabilization, along with the integration of elements from various therapeutic theories such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), mindfulness, reality therapy, as well as elements of play therapy and art therapy with children and teens. April also practices Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), a widely-researched and highly-effective form of psychotherapy that helps individuals find healing from the symptoms of traumatic life experiences.

April is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina (license #14508). She received a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2017.

A survivor of childhood cancer, April has a deep desire to come alongside children, teenagers, adults, and families when crisis or trauma interrupts one’s life journey. April’s scope of practice includes, but is not limited to the following areas: Anxiety, Depression, Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Acute Stress Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. April’s counseling approach reflects a whole-person dynamic because she views each person as a physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual being. She seeks to collaborate with her clients to help find solutions that work for them so they can facilitate change that is sustainable over time.

As a counselor, April is empathetic and honest. She seeks to genuinely get to know you as the client in an effort to understand your unique context so that she may meet you where you are and walk alongside you toward psychological, social, and spiritual healing.

April enjoys cooking, crafting, research and writing, spending time with family and friends, and serving at church.
