Building on the foundation.
Cornerstone Counseling and Wellness, PLLC, was established on January 1, 2019 by Joy Tanner. Joy began her counseling career working in a community mental health setting before transitioning to private practice in 2017. In late 2018, Joy unexpectedly envisioned starting a group practice that would provide multiple pathways in which all people could journey toward psychological, social, and spiritual healing. At Cornerstone, we have a passion to establish a well-rounded treatment plan that fits your specific needs. Holistic care is a vital aspect of how we care for the people we serve. We offer various evidence-based modalities and assessments and are also are thoroughly equipped to provide spiritually integrative mental health care upon request.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule a session?
The first step is to contact us to schedule a complimentary phone consultation. You may do this through the contact form found on the Home page of this website, or by clicking the contact button on a specific therapist's profile page. We look forward to speaking with you about your counseling needs!
How do I complete intake paperwork?
Once your initial session has been scheduled, you will receive an email inviting you to create a login and profile on our secure client portal (TheraNest). Through this portal you will review/edit your demographic information, add your insurance information (if applicable) and to review and electronically sign and submit intake documents prior to your initial session. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes.
What are your session fees?
Our private pay rates for fully-licensed therapists (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) are as follows (rates apply to both office-based and distance/video counseling):
Initial Session/Clinical Assessment (90 min): $150

Court-related costs: Our therapists do not voluntarily testify in court on your behalf or on the behalf of your family member. If one of our therapists receives a subpoena to testify in court, a fee of $200 per hour (including travel time) will be assessed.
Do you accept insurance?
All clinicians at Cornerstone are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (with the exception of Blue Local and Blue Value Plans). Joy Tanner is also in network with Cigna Behavioral Health.
What if you are not in network with my insurance?
If we are "out-of-network" with your insurance provider, you will be responsible for paying the private pay rates (above) at the time of your session. We will gladly provide you with a "superbill" so that you can seek reimbursement from your insurance company. Your insurance company may or may not defray the cost of counseling. You may call the member services number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about their out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services.
What methods of payment do you accept?
You can pay for session fees via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flex Spending Accounts (FSA). Cornerstone Counseling and Wellness clients are required to keep a payment method on file in our secure client portal. Full payment for sessions (private pay, deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance) is expected at the time of service delivery.
Do you offer reduced rates for services?
You have taken an important step to seek counseling! We don't want finances to be a factor in your ability to meet your counseling goals. We will discuss your options with you. You will be required to provide proof of income (Federal Tax Forms W-2 or 1099, or your 2 most recent pay stubs). If approved, you and your therapist will complete and sign a Reduced Rate Agreement form.
What can I expect at the first session?
During the first session, your therapist will first need to see your photo ID and your insurance card (if filing insurance), then will review intake paperwork with you to insure that you clearly understand the information contained within. Your therapist will work with you to complete a comprehensive clinical assessment. You and your therapist will then identify and document treatment goals that are tailored specifically for your desired counseling outcome.
What do I need to bring with me to counseling?
For the first session, please bring a photo ID and your insurance card. Also, for the first session and for ongoing sessions, clients find it helpful to bring a notebook or journal and something to write with.
