Kiel's counseling experience includes working with adolescents, adults & groups in both vocational and community mental health settings since September 2016. He has provided counseling assistance for various issues including addiction, dual diagnoses, men’s issues, religious trauma, racial identity, depression, anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, psychosis, legal issues, career counseling and adolescent behavioral issues. Kiel is able to integrate faith and spirituality into counseling when requested by the client.

Kiel has taken a winding road to get to the counseling field, working as a sports camp counselor, residential care staff and a special education teacher. Eventually, Kiel attended North Carolina Central University to receive Master's Degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Career Counseling in December of 2016. Kiel is licensed through the North Carolina Board of Clinical Mental Health as a LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) and he is also licensed through the Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Professional Practice Board as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS).

Kiel views counseling as a collaborative relationship where clients are empowered to see the strengths within themselves in order to make positive changes. To this end, Kiel draws from various therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Emotional Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEPD). In his work, Kiel seeks to look past a person’s symptoms and experiences to meet them where they are at as a person.
